Detective Jon Jarema

May 13 2020,

Community Members,

As many of you are aware, the Newport Beach Police Department lost one of its finest this
weekend. On Saturday, May 9 , Detective Jon Jarema passed away after a two year battle with brain cancer. For the past 12 years, Jon served the community of Newport Beach as a Patrol Officer, SWAT team member, and most recently as a Detective.

In May 2018, Jon was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. For two years Jon fought through many surgeries and treatments with his family and friends by his side. Jon continued to work during that time and maintained a positive attitude. Despite the battle Jon was going through, his infectious smile never faded and he never failed to make his partners laugh.

Tragically, on May 9, 2020, Jon passed away surrounded by his family, friends, and
partners. Jon leaves behind his beautiful wife, Lauren, and three year old twins, Jett and Quinn. As the Jarema family navigates the loss of Jon, the Newport Beach Police Association and the community of Newport Beach stand beside them, now and always.

We are asking for anyone who is willing and able, to please make a donation to the Jarema family, and to spread the word about our fundraising efforts. One of the ways we can support Lauren and the children is to ensure they do not have financial worries while they grieve. This is one of those moments where it is up to us to step up to the plate and go big for someone who spent his life protecting others. Below are the two ways donations can be made.

The Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) Fund a Hero campaign is similar to GoFundMe, except that there are no fees and every penny raised will go directly to the family. This is the easiest method for the typical donor to show their support.

For any individual or corporation wishing to make a sizeable donation, or anyone interested in receiving tax benefits for their donation, please send a check payable to The Newport Beach Police Association Charitable Foundation (NBPACF) with “Jon Jarema Fund” in the memo section. The Newport Beach Police Association Charitable Foundation is a nonprofit recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt, charitable organization. Tax deductible receipts will be
provided. Please send checks to the listed address or drop them off at the Police Department front desk.

Please mail checks to:

On behalf of the Newport Beach Police Association we cannot thank the community enough for your support during this tragic time. The level of support shown by this great community has been overwhelming and it has been a bright light during this time of grief and mourning over the loss of our brother. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or Sabrina Fabbri.

Sincerely,
